If you've ever stopped to study the intricate interlocking letters of New York City wildstyle graffiti and wondered who taught the world to write that way chances are CES had something to do with it.
On Thursday, May 21, 2026, the Museum of Graffiti's Private Gallery in Miami hosted the opening of an all-new body of work from one of graffiti's most influential figures, drawing collectors, art lovers, and street culture fans from across South Florida and beyond.
Who Is CES? Four Decades of Defining Wildstyle
Writing since the early 1980s, CES rose to international prominence through the 1990s as a defining force in New York City's graffiti movement. Helping lead the genre's evolution from subway cars to large-scale murals and respected gallery walls, his aerodynamic, interlocking letterforms became a global reference point for urban artists everywhere, and his collaborations with major international brands cemented his reputation as a true icon of street culture.
Over forty years later, that influence hasn't dimmed. It's evolved.
This exhibition wasn't a greatest-hits showcase. It was a debut of all-new body of work offering collectors and the public a rare, intimate look at where CES is going as an artist right now. That kind of access to a living legend is genuinely uncommon, and the Museum of Graffiti's Private Gallery created exactly the right environment for it: close, unhurried, conversational.
The evening ran 7–9 PM, with an exclusive VIP preview from 6–7 PM for invited guests. The first 150 visitors received a complimentary limited-edition CES poster, courtesy of Cosmo Tires.
Why This Matters for Miami's Art Scene
The Museum of Graffiti's Private Gallery in Wynwood exists to give artists like CES the platform their work deserves. Treating graffiti as the significant art movement it is. Events like this are why Miami belongs in the same conversation as New York, Los Angeles, and Berlin when it comes to urban art culture.
